SHORTAGE OF NURSES AT COAST HOSPITALS STILL ACUTE
There are still ample opportunities for trained nurses on the West Coast, in addition to openings for probationer nurses, and cooks.’ at local hospitals according to advice received from the District Employment Officer at Greymouth, Mr J. C. Corbishley. Local institutions are regarded as excellent training places and the social and living conditions are comparable with other hospitals throughout New Zealand. The Greymouth Hospital requires the services of six girls for the household staff. Award wages are paid and the period worked is 40 hours a week. Excellent accommodation is available at the hospital. There is also a shortage of staff at the Westland Public Hospital, two domestics, •wx probationer nurses, and two trained nurses being required. The position at this hospital is serious, and assistance is urgently needed. The Mental Hospital Department has vacancies for probationer nurses. Ample overtime is provided at 4s sid an hour, and for every two days worked, there is one off duty, with a month’s holiday every live months on full pay. The commencing wage is £3 a week clear. Two female cooks are also required at this hospital. WORK, IN MELSON Various vacancies exist for the position of female seasonal workers in Nelson. Single fares will be paid by the National Employment. Service for those who are desirous of staying there for a period of at least one month.
