LIGHTNING STRIKE

LONDON, Feb. 26. A lightning strike by stevedores held up the. discharge of luggage from the Queen Elizabeth at Southampton. The Duchess of Leinster, Mr Brendan Bracken, (former Cabinet Minister), and the'actor Ivor Novello, were among passengers who had to carry their luggage from the wharf to the Customs. The stevedores struck as a protest against being diverted from work on other ships. . After being addressed by their shop stewards, the stevedores agreed to return to work but not until over 1000 men in other parts of the docks 'had struck in sympathy. Stewards took the luggage off the ship and piled it on the quayside, where a scramble developed as the passngers endeavoured to identify and rescue their belongings. This was repeated later when the four boat trains reached Waterloo over three hours late.
