Wesport Bar
While a good depth of water has been maintained on the Westport bar in recent months, there has been silting in the river which has on occasions caused the larger type of colliers to be stranded at low tide. On other occasions because of insufficient water at the berthage area at the Crane Wharf, some ships have had to sail with slightly reduced loads’.
Although Westport is classed as an important port, almost two months have passed in 1947 without the appearance of a tide table which is usually released by the MarineDepartment.
