N.Z. BUTTER FOR CANADA
Twelve Million Lbs.
OTTAWA, Feb. 18
The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Gardiner) in a return tabled in the House of Commons said 5,000,0001 b of New Zealand butter would be received in Canada by February 20 and “further importations to a maximum of 12,000,0001 b will be governed by our future domestic position.”
Mr Gardiner, who supplied this- information at the request of Mr John Bracken (Progressive Conservative leader) said the butter was being imported by the Agricultural Department's Dairy Products Board, payments being made to the British Food Ministry, which originally bought it. British Government permission was necessary for its diversion. No direct compensation adjustment had been made, he said, “there has been and will continue to be a mutual arrangement of adjustments.”
