AMATEUR ATHLETICS

There was a large crowd at Vicloria Square on Wednesday night for the weekly meeting held by the Athletic Association. Results: — Tech boys’ 100yds; W. Richards 1; C. Steel 2; A. Hawse 3. There was a great finish, Richards just getting the decision.

Junior 100yds: W. Richards 1; C. Steel 2: I. Nottle 3. Richards again just shaded Steel.

Junior 440yds: N. Luff 1; C. Steel 2: M. Whites 3. Luff, who is only young, ran very well to hold off the fast-finishing Steel. Girls’ 100yds• Tennant 1; Rowlands 2: E. Quinn 3. Ladies’ 75yds: M. Christensen 1; M. McLachlan 2; M. Mockett 3. Miss Christensen was too fast out of the blocks for the opposition, and she held an advantage all the way. Ladies ’looyds:, M. McLachlan 1; M. Christensen 2; M. Mockett 3. Miss McLachlan turned the tables this time, staying on very well. Girls’ 75yds: E. Quinn 1; Scully 2; J. Colvin 3. Also ran: M. Rowlands, Tennant, L. Quinn, R, Colvin.

Small boys' 220yds; John Roberts 1; B. Stevens 2; Tredennick 3. Big boys’ 100yds; Hawes 1; White 2; J. James 3. Senior 100yds: R. Hawes 1; W. Curragh 2; J. Parkhouse 3. Hawes struck his best form, having to fight it out all the way with the consistent Curragh.

Men’s 220yds: M. Taylor 1; W. Curragh 2; R. Hawes 3. A distance runner, Taylor surprisingly won in convincing style. Men’s 880yds: Bilborough 1; O’Connor 2; Anderson 3. Bilborough had an easy victory. Boy?’ 100yds: J. James 1; J, Kearns 2f T. Hawes 3. Half-mile cycle race: Ellery 1; Duncan 2; Hazeldine 3. A newcomer, the winner showed a lot of. promise. One mile cycle race: Hazeldine 1; Ellery 2; Flynn 3. Hazeldine, who has been placed in every start this season, notched an easy win. Mile and a-half cycle race: Hazeldine 1; Duncan 2; Ellery 3. Won by a wheel.

Boys’ 100yds: B. Lavery 1; Monteith 2; Stewart 3. Senior boys’ 100yds: R. White 1; O. Nahr 2; A. Lamont 3.
