HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, Nov. 28. Many fishermen throughout Westland are trying out various schemes to catch eels for canning. The local factory is paying fourpence per lb. for the clean eels ready for canning. Up to the present only small catches have been recorded, and it is expected that no record hauls will take place until the eels commence their trek to the sea during January. It is understood that the Princess Theatre in Hokitika has changed hands, and a new company is to take over the theatre on or about December 15. The Governor-General, General Sir Bernard Freyberg and Lady Freyberg will visit Hokitika on Tuesday, December 3. Their Excellencies will be accorded a civic reception by the Mayor, Mi' A. R. Elcock. During their stay in Hokitika they will visit Westland Hospital. A civic reception will be held at the entrance to the Soldiers’ Hall in Sewell Street. Following the visit to Westland Hospital they will leave for Greymouth.
