Westland Surplus EXCEPT AT FOUR CENTRES Only four of the ten offices showed deposits in excess' of quotas last week, and three of these were the coal mining centres of Runanga, Brunnerton and Blackball, in that order. Runanga’s contribution to National Savings accounts totalled £416 4s, or the equivalent of four weeks’ full quotas. Greymouths’ effort was £1062 2s, being recorded at the local office, thissum being just over double the week’s' quota. The four successful offices invested £1614 18s 6d, an excess of £894 18s 6d.
Individual returns are (with surpluses in parenthesis-): Greymouth £1062 2s (£542 2s); Runanga £416 4s (£316 4s); Brunnerton £72 (£22); Blackball £64 12s 6d (£l4 12s 6d) ; total £1614 18s 6d (£894 18s' 6d). From the remaining six offices deposits of £139 12s lOd were received, this amount being £203 7s 2d below the aggregate quotas. Inves-tments at these six offices are (with deficiencies in parenthesis) as follows: —Otira £8 14s (£1 6s); Ross £l7 19s (£7 Is); Kumara £9 12s 6d (£l5 7s 6d); Waiuta £9 3s 6d (£l5 16s 6d); Reef ton £ll 8s- (£6l 12s); Hokitika £B2 15s lOd (£lO2 -Is 2d); total £139 12s lOd (£203 7s 2d).
