Mr. and Mrs. T. Clark, and Mr. R. Clark, former well-known residents of Greymouth, returned to Christchurch last evening by rail-car.
Mr. J. J. Lysaght, of Raukapuku, Geraldine, was yesterday a visitor to attend the ceremony of Monsignor J. Long’s investiture as a Domestic Prelate.

Professor R. E. Alexander, who retired from the post of Director of the Canterbury Agricultural College at Lincoln in 1936, died yesterday at Christchurch. Born in Ireland in 1874, he was educated at the Royal Academical Instituion in Belfast and the Royal College of Science in Dublin. From 1903 to 1905 he was! Agricultural Instructor for the County ofLondonderry. He came to New Zealand in 1909 as Director of Lincoln College. In 1930 ■he was appointed Professor of Agriculture to the University of New Zealand. Dr. Alexander is survived by two sons, one of whom is at Lincoln College, and the other is farm manager at Wesley. College, Pukekohe. There are two daughters, Mrs D. McLeod (Cass), and Miss B. Alexander. —P.A.
