RIGHTS IN ANTARCTIC

Chile and Argentine MAY INVOKE U.N.O. (Rec. 8.50.) BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 19. Argentina Foreign Office sources stated that Chile and Argentina are considering referring to the United Nations a joint claim to South Polar sectors in the event of Britain, America and other nations interested in the Antarctic refusing to recognise their claim. Argentina will accept Chile’s invitation to form a joint Commission to proclaim their right in the Antarctic, which both nations consider to be their province, because of historical and geographical reasons. Argentina will join in the Chilean expedition to the Antarctic, the nearest land of which is only seven hundred miles southward of Chile.
