SAMOA TRUSTEESHIP

N.Z. Proposal to U.N.O.

NEW YORK, Nov. 16. A Trusteeship agreement o'n West-

tern Samoa, submitted by New Zealand, was considered at the first meeting of the Trusteeship Committee. Mr C. G. R. McKay (New Zealand) gave a brief account of the condition and nature of the Samoans.. He explained' that the population, which was over 90 per cent. , Samoan, lived a simple, non-i’ndus-trial life, according to a just social system which they themselves had ' developed and which the New Zealand Government considered it unwise to change. He stated that every effort was being made, however, to develop the people towards seLGovernment, and that 27 Samoans were now training in New Zealand to replace the New Zealanders the administration pf the wamoan territory.
