I.our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, August 27. A general executive of eight, comprising Messrs W. F. Archer. H. Millar, R. Yellowlees, H. Smith, C. Lawn, H. Robinson, and Mesdames Wells and Yellowlees, to assist at the West Coast Fire Brigades" demonstration at Reefton in December, was set' up at a special meeting bn Monday night. This will be the first West Coast demonstration for some years at Reefton, although a jubilee demonstration was held in 1944. Probably eleven brigades will compete. On December 7, a sports gala will be held along with the firemen’s events. A welcome ball on the night of December 6 will be preceded by a procession. It was decided to ask for a Government grant. A donation has been promised by the local Coal Mine Owners’ Association. The following will comprise the fire brigade events: One man: Dry event (Browning CupK Two men: Wet event (Rose Cup). Three men: Disabled hose event (Otira Citizens’ Cup). Four men: Hose and stand pipe (Benyon Cup). Four men event (Heslop Tankard). Four men: Ladder and union (Powley Memorial Cup). Four men: Trailer pump (Thompson Shield). Novice: Two men event for competitors who have not competed at an official demonstration (cash prize). In addition, the Russell-McLeod Shield, Grogan Shield, and Clarence McKay Cup will he allotted to the aggregates. ’ Coal output last week from this district was 2135 tons, being reduced by adverse weather. The engagement is announced of Phyllis Rose, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Cook, of Reefton, and John Christopher, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Briggs, of Hector, Buller. So far this year the State Forestry in this locality have planted about twelve thousand trees in an area of ten acres at Globe Hill.
