“Sun" Aria Contestant

COMPLIMENTARY CONCERT There was an excellent attendance at the complimentary concert arranged by the Westport Competitions Society in honour of Miss Lucie HavMackenzie, the winner of the Buller district elimination contest for the “Sun” Aria Contest and who next week will compete at the Wellington Competitions in the New Zealand elimination final contest. The concert was a most enjoyable one and Miss Hay-Mackenzie gave some particularly good vocal solos, ably augmented by Misses Pamela Smith and Pauline Burley in their vocal duets, while Mrs Lawford proved herself one of the most talented violinists to play at a local function. The vocal soios by Misses M. McHerron, Joy Swan, 'B. Phibbs and A. Annibal and Mrs N. Smith were all well received and the dancing items by Kathleen Peggie and Glennis Wright were very popular. Miss P. Garvey’s elocutionary item was most pleasing. Mesdames T. Mathewson and Christiansen, Miss V. Phipps and Mr L. Atkinson were accompanists. During the function the Mayor (Mr J. M. Robertson) wished Miss HayMackenzie the best of luck in the contest at Wellington.
