NGAHERE FARM SALE
Conflicting Evidence WESTLAND LAND SALES-. COMMITTEE Some controversy as td the state of the property arose when the application for the sale of a Ngahere farm ?.f 74 acres 2 roods 21.5 perches, freehold, by James Shields to George Shaw, junr., was considered by the Westland Land Sales' Committee at Greymouth yesterday. Present were: the Commissioner for Crown Lands (Mr N. Clay), Fields Inspector of the Lands Department (Mr D. H. Thomas), and Messrs M. Wallace (chairman), J. Mulcare, and J. W. Greenslade. The price sought was £1950. f Mr Michael Minehan, a farmer, oi Cobden, stated that the farm was one of the'best small holdings in the district. Mr Clay claimed that the property was badly affected by watei and mud, and was infected with ragwort and gorse. . , Mr Shields, the vendor, stated tna. he had purchased the leasehold for £5OO and the freehold for £ll5O, a total of £1650. He had cleared gorse off 15 acres, and had sown grass, erected fences and a barn. He had received £7O from the Public Works Department as compensation for lane, taken for a road. After hearing further conflicting evidence, the Committee decided that it would visit and inspect the site before giving its decision. Consent to sale was granted 1. Stratford and others to G. F. Webster, Buccleugh Street, Greymouth, 21.5 perches, freehold, price £5OO, suoject to a reduction to £455.
