LONDON, Aug. 26. India in its first innings scored 138 (Merchant 38, R. Smith six for 56). Essex, second innings, three for 201 declared (Crabtree 118). India, second innings 33 for one wicket. The secretary of the M.C.C., Colonel Rait Kerr, stated to-day that the possibility of the English cricket team playing in New Zealand at the conclusion of its Australian tour is still under discussion.
