Mrs G. Murtha, of Cobden, returned yesterday for Christchurch. Mrs O. Robinson returned yesterday to Hokitika, from Christchurch. Mr. F. Hutton, Grey district Rehabilitation Officer, resumed duties this week after spending annual leave at Gore. Mr. C. R. Baker, station clerk, Rail • ways Department, Greymouth, has left on annual leave, which will be spent in Invercargill. The funeral of Mrs. E. Hogarth took place at the Karoro Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Pastor M. J. Savage conducted the burial services. Mr. R. Buchanan of the staff of the Railways' Department, Greymouth, who has been on sick leave, resumed duties this week. Mr. R. White of the clerical staff of the Railways Department, left Greymouth yesterday on a holiday visit to Motueka. At last evening’s meeting of the West Coast Rugby League, motions of condolence were accorded the relatives of the late Mr J. Sweeney the late Mr R. C. Kent. Mr. H. W. Davey has been ap-> pointed acting-general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co., Ltd., in place of Mr. C. J. Parlane, who has retired.
Inspector M. J. Angland of the Police Department, Greymouth, returned to Greymouth last evening, after spending a vacation at Auckland. Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Messrs A. M. Archer, J. Williams, R. Davidson, and Mr and Mrs T. Bromfield (Christchurch), Messrs T. Mitchell, H. Kearney (Ranfurly), W. Strong (Naseby), L. R. Smith (Rangiora), Mr and Mrs M. R. Walker, Mr and Mrs Evans, Mr G. N. Stevens (Auckland). Returning after an absence of seven years, Squadron-Leader W. D. Heaphy, A.F.C., R.A.F., and his wife and child, will arrive in Greymouth to-morrow. Squadron - Leader Heaphy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Heaphy, Palmerston Street. He joined the R.A.F. on a short service commission in May, 1939, and has since served with both Coastal and Transport Commands. He was awarded the A.F.C. while officer commanding a meterological section, and until recently was stationed in France. The death occurred at the Reefton Hospital on Monday of William George Poulter, aged 69 years. The deceased was a native of Kaikoura and had been farming at Maruia for the past 30 years. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs McNeill (Reefton), Miss Sadie (Nelson) and Miss June (Maruia): five sons, Clarence i (Reefton). Ernest (Rotokohu). Edward (Hastings), Bruce Wellington) and Maxwell (Maruia). The funeral will take place at Maruia on Thursday,
