TWO MEN ARRESTED
ALLEGED TYRE THEFT ' ' WELLINGTON, August 26. George Purdom, aged 29, a driver, and Thomas Gordon, aged 38, a driver were -jointly charged in the Magistrate’s C,ou ; r!t ; t;o-d'ay with breaking and entering the warehouse of Munt Cottrell Ltd. in Tmakori road and stealing 13 motor truck tyres valued at £376/9/-. At the request of Senior Detective E. H. Compton they were remanded until September 4. Mr. G. C. Kent, for Purdom and Mr G. Joseph, for Gordon, asked for bail. Senior Detective Compton said the accused were found on the premises with a truck, pursued arid later arrested. “Were they taking advantage of the electrical black-out ” asked Mr. J. L. Stout S. M. Senior Detective Compton said these events had occurred during the black-out. Bail was allowed, each £250 with two sureties of £l5O each.
