MARCHING CONTESTS

N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS WELLINGTON, August 25. Delegates from many centres attended the first annual meeting of the New Zealand Marching and Recreation Association on Saturday. The retiring president, Mr. G. S. Austad (Otago), said that about 240 teams were represented at the meeting. It was decided to hold national championships at Hastings on March 1, 1947.® North Island championships’ were allotted to the Wairarapa Association to be held at Masterton on a date to be fixed. The South Island championships were allotted to the Marlborough Association to be held at Blenheim, also on a date to be selected. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. George Stanton, Pahiatua; executive: Messrs. G. S. Austad (Otago), R. J. Irvine (Timaru), F. Owers (Wellington), S. G. Leader (Napier), J. Meldrum (Hastings), K. W. Kilpatrick (Hawera), F. Robb (Oamaru), Lt. Col. O’Leary (Rotorua), R. Hill (Palmerston North), F. Gray (Pahiatua) J; secretary-treasurer, Mr. J. M. Jeffs; Hon. Auditor, Mr. R. G. Reveirs.
