The twenty-sixth Runanga School Children’s Annual Fancy dress ball, which was held' in the Miners’ Hall on Friday last, proved to be an unqualified success, the many fancy dress costumes adding a gay touch to a keenly competitive air. Special tribute is due to those responsible for the organisation of the function and to the ladies’ committee for their assistance in connection v.ith supper arrangements. Prize winners were:— Best fancy Iress (gj I), K. Devine (Little 80-Peep); best Boy, Neil Virtue (Oxo); special girl, G. Ivlinioff (Bridesmaid), special boy, n. Smithson (Chinaman); most original boy, Hadcroft brothers (Scarecrow); cheapest dress, E. Dalzell and B. Fluerty (Adam and Eve); special dance, T. Patterson. Under five years. Boy, T. Gilligan (Jockey), gin, P. Westwood (Rabbit); special prize girl. F. Fisher (Grey River Argus); boy, K. Kennedy (Devil); youngest is fancy ciress, R. Kennedy; lucky seat, Mrs. Blacklock. The judges in the children’s sections were Mrs. S. B. White and Miss White of Greymouth. Music was supplied by Williams’ Orchestra and Messrs P. Hamblev and S. Maskill were M’s.C.
RUNANGA MEDICAL SOCIETY There was a poor attendance of members at the half-yearlv meetings of the Runanga Accident and' the Runanga Medical Societies which were held in the Miners’ Hall, Runanga, yesterday. Mr. G. English presided at the meeting of the Accident Society. In opening the meeting a vote of condolence was accorded the relatives . of the late Mr John Dowling, a former member of the society. The - balance sheet for the half year ended June 30. 1946, disclosed' a credit balance of £355 12s Id. Assets ot the society were cited at £361 2s Id. After a general discussion, it was resolved on the motion of Messrs. R. Mitchell and B. Fisher, that Rule 7 (dealing with the weekly payments to members), be amended in the interests of the society. MEDICAL SOCIETY Mr. J. Oakley presided at the half yearly meeting of the Runanga Medical Society. The balance sheet for. the half year ended June 30, showed a credit balance in the Sick and* Funeral Fund, of £126, and a credit " balance of £963 Is Id in the manage- ; ment fund. The assets of the society were disclosed at £BOB 17s Id. The chairman reported that the rule adopted at the annual meeting whereby members would receive specialist attention when reqiZi'ed, was now x in operation two members having received such assistance during the half year. The rule adopted provides for payment of £5 in any one year to help meet the payrd-w'ft • of specialist expenses.
