OBITUARY
MR JAS. WARD, WELLINGTON WELLINGTON, August 11. The death occurred suddenly at Wellington on Saturday, of Mr James Ward. Born at Hokitika, the late Mr Ward was educated at St. Mary’s.’ School, Hokitika, and St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, having been the first Hokitika boy to obtain a St. Patrick’s College scholarship. After matriculating, he entered the Government Audit Department, later attaining the position of Senior Auditor for Wellington. He retired after completing over 40 years’ service. During the war years Mr Ward’s ability as an accountant was utilised by the Wellington Patriotic Council, when he gave of his services freely in the raising of the million pound loan. He later joined the staff of the N.Z. University as accountant, which position he held until the end of March of this year. The late Mr Ward is survived by three daughters, Sisters M. Euphrasie and Augustine (Good Shepherd .Convent, Mt. Magdala, Christchurch), Sister M. Monica (Brisbane), and four sons, Rev. Alex. Ward, S.M. (Silvers!ream), Messrs James, Vincent and Gerard Ward, Wellington. Mrs- E. Laie and Miss Esther Ward, Seaview, Hokitika, are his sisters, to whom the sympathy of the community will be extended.
