Mr. F. T. Eyre of Auckland, j S visiting Hokitika.

Mr R. E. Osmond, of Auckland, is at present a visitor to the West Coast.

The Governor-General and Lady Freyberg returned to Wellington yesterday morning in the interisland ferry from Lyttelton.—Ha.

Rev. Father J. McCarthy, who has been absent from Greymouth since last March, because of ill health, returned to Greymouth by Saturday’s express.

The death occurred at Hokitika yesterday of Mrs. Jane Rennie Macbeath. Deceased, who was aged 74 vears,. was a well-known resident of the district and was a keen worker for the Anglican Church. Her husband' predeceased her 18 years ago, and she is survived by two brothers, Andrew and Thomas Wells of Hokitika. The funeral will leave All Saints’ Church to-morrow for the Hokitika cemetery.

More than thirty years a Ministerial Secretary, Mr. G. F. Dixon, at present Private Secretary to the Attorney-General and Minister ot Justice, on Saturday completed fifty years in the Civil Service. He has been private secretary to nine Ministers of the Crown. Mr. Dixon started and will complete his career in association with the Department of Justice, as his first appointment in August, 1896, was as a cadet in the Head' Office of that Department. He came to Wellington after being educated at Ashley School and Christchurch Boys’ High School. Mr. Dixon was also a foundation student at Victoria College, Wellington, ana is a life member of the Students’ Association of which he was many times an office bearer. —P.A.

The following immediately take up appointment as Directors of N.Z. National Airways Corporation; Mr J. S. Hunter (deputy chairman), of Lower Hutt; Mr W. W. Hynes; of Palmerston North; Mr F. W. Mothes, of Whangarei; Mr H. Worrall, of Christchurch. Mr L. M. Isitt ic chairman. Mr Hunter was Director of National Service during the war, and later became Director of the Organisation for National Development and Assistant-Commissioner of Planning. Mr Worrall has been closely associated with civil aviation, and is managing director and chairman of directors of Air Travel (N.Z.), Ltd. During the war he was a squadron adjutant at Wigram. He is a member of the Wheat Committee, and is managing director of the Sefton Flourmilling Co., Ltd., and the Central Milling Co., Ltd.
