COUNCIL OF SPORT

WELLINGTON ATHLETIC CENTRE WITHDRAWS AFFILIATION WELLINGTON, June 25. The Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association decided at a meeting last night to withdraw from affiliation with the Council of Sport. This action was taken on the direction of the New Zealand Association. The chairman,. Mr R. Spence, said it was with regret and under protest that the centre took the step. The New Zealand Association had twice previously directed the centre to comply with its' interpretation of the rules that centres had no power to affiliate with the Council of Sport. After the motion of withdrawal had been passed, Mr Spence gave notice of motion for .the next annual meeting of the New Zealand Association for the purpose of rescinding the non-affiliation motion carried in 1944, and making the New Zealand Association a member of the Council of Sport. This was carried.
