U.S.A. FOOD SHIPMENTS
For Femme Relief OVER HALF MILLION TONS FOR HALF YEAR. (Rec. 7.40) WASHINGTON, June 24. Mr Chester Davis,'chairman of President Truman’s Famine Emergency Committee stated that Mr Herbert Hoover told the committee that the world relief feeding situation had been met reasonably well. Mr Hoover believed that continued efforts would see most of the food goals achieved. Mr Davis reported that the United States shipped 4,719,000 tons of tvheat, Lour and corn for relief from January 1 to June 20, and that, if the ships are available, the total would be 5,723,000 tons by the end of this month, thereby exceeding the United States commitment of 5,500,000 tons for this period. He added that an inquiry is being made to see whether the Allies’ action in dismantling the nitrogen plants of Germany cm be stopped, so that the plants can be used to produce fertiliser, which ir> critically needed in Germany.
