N. AUCKLAND FLOODS

LAND COVERED IN BILT RAIN MOVES SOUTH P.A. AUCKLAND, June 25. Very little rain fell in North Auckland to-day and the heavy floods caused by the terrific downpour of the preceding three days are now slowly subsiding leaving fields and pasture lands covered with a thick yellow silt. Many of the traffic routes, which were temporarily blocked, have been cleared, although not all roads are yet open. The warm front which brought the rain to the north has moved southward, and to-day heavy downpours were experienced in Bay of Plenty areas. Road damage in Northland is estimated at many thousands of pounds. Most of the main routes are now open again, although heavy slips on some are expected to t a ' ie several weeks to clear. A major slip, which blocked , the principal Whangarei-Auckland State higl.-way on Monday, was cleared ts-night sufficiently to allow traffic through, and cars are again using the road.
