Denniston Bread

At a meeting of the Greymouth Master Bakers' Association held in Greymouth recently, Mr G. Harker reported that a deputation comprising himself and Messrs Shannon and Robertson, visited Westport on Monday to try to arrange for a bread supply fot Denniston. After conferring ■ with Westport bakers, Messrs Stevens Broe. had agreed to undertake the supply. In the meantime, arrangements have been made to have bread sent from the Runanga Co-operative Society and bread will probably be sent from Runanga until arrangements have been made for the Westport firm to take over. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. There was a large attendance at the May meeting of the Westport Women’s Institute. Two new members were welcomed. The report oi 1 lie'Federation meeting was read by Mrs. Farrell. The roll call was “An incident of pioneering,” and' many interesting tales were told. The competition results were as follows. A piece of work done in the last six months: Mrs. V'. ■ Wilson 1; Mis. Johns 2; Miss Theobald 3. Best bloom: Mrs. Ridsdale 1; Mrs. W. Stowell 2; Mrs. Fox 3. The social half hour was in the hands of Mesdames Pottinjer and Nees, who sponsored a competition won by Miss Ray and Mrs. Davis. After supper the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem brought an enjoyable evening to a close. DREDGE UNDER REPAIR. The Marine Department’s bucket dredge, Maui, left yesterday for Wellington for completion of annual repairs. FACTORY RE-COMMENCES WORK. The plaster board factory of Porter and Nelson, which has been idle for six weeks owing to there being no plaster available, has re-commenced production. BULLER "TIMES” BUILDING DEMOLISHED. The office of the old Buller “Times” has now completely disappeared. It has been pulled down and a modern store will replace it. The old building had stood as' a landmark (and also an eyesore) for many years.
