POLISH SOLDIERS
REFUSAL TO RETURN. LONDON, May 15. The Financial Secretary of the War Office, in a written reply to the House of Commons, stated that 3,500 Polish soldiers serving in Italy had volunteered to return home following Mr. Bevin’s recent announcement. Two thousand three hundred of them at the last minute refused to sail because, (1) they had not been paid war gratuities; (2) arrangements were not made for the transfer of their savings to Poland, and (3) they were not issued with new uniforms. Morawski, interviewed by the Tass News Agency. The first question on the referendum would be the need for a modern Parliament. Nobody wanted a senate, except reactionaries. The , other two questions would concern Agrarian reform and Poland’s western frontiers.
