CHRISTCHURCH, May 16. The only nomination received for a National Party candidate for the new Ashburton electorate was that of Mr R. G. Gerard, M.P. The present member for the old Mid-Canterbury electorate, Mr Gerard was elected to replace Mrs A. N. Grigg (now Mrs W. J. Polson) in 1943. Mr J. Acland, member for the old Temuka electorate, part of which has been absorbed by Ashburton, will not stand against Mr Gerard. WELLINGTON, May 16.

It is unofficially reported that Mr B. Roberts will again contest the restricted Wairarapa electorate which now includes Masterton Borough. His intention of accepting nomination as National Party candidate for the new Rodney electorate was announced by Mr T. Clifton Webb, member for the old Kaipara electorate.
