AGAINST AUSTRALIAN FORCES. FOR DAMAGE ON NORTHERN STATION. (Rec. 7.10.) SYDNEY, May 15. A Darwin message stated that . cattle on a Northern Territory station were slaughtered, and much > damage was done to property by Australian airmen and ground troops according to the claim of the sta- ■ tion owner in the Commonwealth Compensation Court, when applying for £2448 compensation from the - Government. The Army has already 1 made payment of £l7B. The claimant alleged that the cattle were stampeded by the military forces on their manoeuvres. Fences were cut and torn down by Bren carriers, and commando units slaughtered cattle for food. The owner gave evidence that thirty-seven cattle which were clustered round one end' of a lagoon, were machine-gunned by the pilot of a plane.

A daughter of the manager stated ’that she had seen the carcases of horses which had been shot. The station covers eight-hundred thousand acres.
