CITIZENSHIP BILL
PASSEDi BY CANADIAN COMMONS. (Rec. 8.5). OTTAWA, May 15. A Canadian Citizenship Bill was passed by the Blouse of Commons after a long debate. Its provisions include;— (1) The establishment and recognition of Canadian citizenship, and in future Canadian passports will carry the words’ “Canadian Citizen”.
(2) A Canadian woman who marries a man of another nationality is entitled to Canadian citizenship. (3) Women marrying Canadians are entitled to qualify for Canadian citizenship one year after establishing their residence in Canada. •
(4) Native-born Canadians, British subjects domiciled in Canada, brides of Canadian servicemen, and all possessing naturalisation certificates are immediately to become Canadian citizens.
(5) Non-Canadians with the Canadian armed forces are to qualify for citizenship after one year’s service abroad.
(6) British citizens will be issued with naturalisation papers, upon request, after five years’ residence in Canada.
(7) Canadian citizens' shall lose their citizenship if they remain outside the Dominion for six years without declaring their intention to remain Canadians.
