KING WINTER

With the cycle of summer games nearing its end, arrangements are now well in hand for winter sports. Already many football clubs, both Rugby Union and Rugby League, have commenced training, and the prospects indicate a record season. It is reported that there is a distinct possibility that hockey will be revived after its lapse during the war years, and it is stated that in addition to four town teams entering the competition, there are good prospects of other districts turning out in a game that was popular on the Coast not so long ago. The golf season officially opens to-day, and it is expected that the links will prove a big attraction for those early season enthusiasts who are out to lower their handicaps. Basketball training is proceeding, and already several practice games have been played. By the middle of next month winter shorts will be in full swing, and spiked shoes, tennis racquets and cricket bats will be laid aside until next November.
