CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND.
F.A. AUCKLAND, February 15. The Communist Party will support the Labour Government »t the forthcoming general election, said MT. A. Drennan, Chairman of the New Zealand Communist Party National Conference, which opened its annual proceedings to-night. Mr. Drennan piesided over an attendance of about 450 He said the hostility displayed by Mr. Devin and Mr. Fraser toward the Soviet Union at the U.N.Q. Conference was noted by the New Z v;land Communists with displeasure. It was time New Zealand had some Communist r< embers in Parliament. The conference would investigate the possibility or nominating a number of candidates to stand at. the general election.
Mr. Drennan’s remarks were supported by several other speakers, all of whom emphasised that it would be the Party’s first, objective to secure a return to office of the Labour Partv. At the same time it was proposed to preserve a critical attitude toward some of the Government’s economic measures and especially toward its foreign policy as expressed bv Mr. Fraser.
