SHIP STRIKES MINE PAXtIS, Jan. 30. One member of the crew was killed and two seriously injured when a 6972-ton United' States steamer, Antietam, struck a floating mine oiT Bordeaux. A French tug landed the remaining 40 members of The crew. WIND IN ENGLAND LONDON, Jan. 30 The worst gale of the Winter swept most, of England last night, leaving a trail of damage one hundred miles wide from the Dorset coast to the North S-ea'. Ships off Beachy Head reported that many mines were -adrift. At Bexhill, a mine exploded on the watwerfront, damaging hotels and houses. Shop and' house windows for a. quarter of a mile were blown in. There were no casualties. When a nine-ton oak tree was blown on to a shed two soldiers were killed and two injured. Wind in the south of England reached a velocity, of seventy-five miles an hour, and in the north eightythree. By morning, the gale had blown itself out.
