ANOTHER DAKOTA CRASH
Eight R.A.F. Men Killed (Rec. 8.45) PARIS, Jan. 31 Eight members of the R.A.F. ware killed when a Dakota transport' plane exploded in mid-air last night, and crashed near Leman’s in France. The aircraft was on a training flight. AVIATION’S HAZARDS. BUREAU TO INVESTIGATE STORMS. (Rec. 11.20). NEW YORK, Jan. 31. Army night fighters, Navy pilotless planes, gliders, balloons and a compact network of ground weather stations jammed into a small area of Central Florida will investigate thunderstorms in the coming spring and summer, in order to remove as far as possibM one of aviati' —’« greatest hazards. The weather bureau, by carrying out tests wil try to discover the most dangerous parts of the storms which cause terrife up-draughts. Planes and gliders will be tracked down by radar during their flights and the data registered by special instruments in the planes will be correlated ,vyith the courses recorded by radar, thus it is hoped to establish the time' and place of occurrences in the heart of storms.
