DIVERS RECOVER SAFE P.A. AUCKLAND Jan. 28. A safe weighing two hundredweight recovered from Manukau Harbour by 7 naval divers, and two bags of silver, were the main exhibits :ffi the Police Court this afternoon, when three men, Chinese half-cast, a Maori and a European appeared before the Magistrate, jointly' charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Low On, Grey’s Avenue, and stealing a safe valued at £5O and £5,000 in money. ■ The accused were Patrick William Farrell, 27, Kwok Sing Tai, 55, and Thomas Tua Gordon 36. The first four witnesses were Chinese who gave evidence through an interpreter. The hearing is proceeding. OTAGO INFANTILE PARALYSIS CASES. DUNEDIN, January 28. One more case of infantile paralysis was reported at Dunedin over the week-end. bringing the total to 21. It is now decreed that none of the primary, secondary', or private schools shall re-open on February 4, the position to be reviewed after a fortnight. WHEELS STOLEN OFF CAR. WELLINGTON, January 28. A Palmerston North visitor who parked his car in Wellington on Friday night received a shock when on Saturday he found the car resting on the axles, minus the wheels and tyres. The place where the theft occurred is close to a busy taxistand, and the owner thought it would have been too conspicuous for any pilferer. FATALITIES. WELLINGTON, January 28. When a yacht capsized off Petone yesterday, one of the occupants was drowned. He was James Alexander Seily, aged 26, of Lower Hutt. The crew of four were thrown into the water when, a sudden gust of wind caused the yacht to overturn. Seily appeared in no difficulty, and his companions gave attention to righting the yacht. When they had done so, they found there was no trace of Seily, who is reported to have been a poor swimmer. The body' so far has not been recovered. AUCKLAND, January 27. Waging a fight against time and against .thick bush, a large party of men, including a-doctor, a policeman,
and an ambulance driver, were too late to save the life of a youth who was fatally wounded as a result of the accidental discharge of a rifle in high country at the back of Drury. The victim was Keith Raymond Bruce, aged 19, of Northcote. The youth was one of a party of four engaged in a goat-shooting expedition.
