Investors were rewarded with double figure dividends in four races on the occasion of the second day of the Gveymoulh Trotting Club’s midsummer meeting at Victoria Parle yesterday. In the second (.went ol the day Falava came witli a great finishing run over the last lurlong, and rewarded his followers with over two-thirds of a century on the win machine. Forecast, Loyal .Native, and Barometer Chimes also paid over double figures. For the day the totalisatar handled 128,694 4, compared with £25,761 on the first day] of the meeting, and £20,4394 for the oncday meeting held in January, ,1945. The winner of the last race, Barometer Chimes, met with a hostile reception from a section of the crowd when it returned to the bird cage *- ter the event. A.fter taking charge before going a mile, Kango. never looked like being beaten, and came on to win comfortably by five lengths from Loyal Native, in the Runanga Handicap. Beverley Volo, Golden Ruin and Timmy Oro were slow off the mark, and out of the straight for the first time it was Upshot showing the way to Loyal Native, ten lengths clear of Kango, with a gap to Compris, Sir Walter, Steel Sword and Belle Header. With a half to go, Kango had taken over, and was doing it nicely from Loyal Native and Upshot, with Compris and Belle Header handily placed. In the back stretch, 1 Fairy Wings showed a turn of speed To move up with the Jeaders. In the run home Kango still led from Loyal Native, with six lengths back to Compris and Fairy Wings, and held on to win comfortably from Loyal Native, with a length and a-half back to Fairy Wings. After being slow to get going, Palava came with a strong run over the last three furlongs to score comfortably from Task Force, who had been in the leading bunch most of the way. Jackalette, third, was prominent in the early stages, but lost ground with half the journey covered, and she had to come from a good way back to earn the minor money. Royal Volo led out from Task Force. Razzle, and Jackalette. Passing the stands the second time, Cue rushed to the front to lead Task Force, Razzle, Jervis- Bay, Loyal Volo and Wainoni Lass, with Jackalette and Palava heading the remainder. Crossing the top, Task Force and Razzle closed on Cue, with Palava showing a lot of speed further out. Task Force was doing beter than Cue at the straight entrance, but was immediately tackled by Palava, which finished full of running to win by a length. Jackalette was a similar distance back, followed by Razzle and Cue. EMPIRE HANDICAP, of 101 furlongs:— 5/4 FORECAST, Mr G. Bennet’s b.g., 5 yrs., Jack Fotts—Flying Cloud, scr (owner) 1 1/1 ADMIRATION (F. G. Holmes) 12 yds 2 3/3 ROSE VOLO, coupled with Hanover and Single Choice (A. A thrilling finish in the Empire Handicap saw Forecast get the decision from Admiration by half a length, after being handily placed throughout. Rose fought it out with Admiration for the minor money, was slow away, but recovered after coving half the distance, and finished well. Past the stands for the first circuit it was Ben Travis from Forecast, Admiration and Paddy Fotts, with a gap back to Prince Dale, Honest Peter and Sponsor, all settled down. With four furlongs to cover, Ben Travis and Forecast were on terms at the head of the field, with Admiration close up, and in the back stretch Admiration made a bid and drew up to the leaders. With less than three furlongs to cover, Forecast drew way, and held on, to be followed by Admiration and Rose Volo into the straight. There was no change in order of the first three past the judge. Honest. Peter and PaddyPotts also made a run over the final stages, Honest Peter passing the post a head in the lead to take fourth place. After the running of the Empire Handicap' the stewards met to consider a charge preferred against L. A. Williams for alleged careless driving in this event. The driver’s explanation was accepted. Red Setter came with a great finishing run over the last furlong, to gain the honours in the big event of the day, by a length over Volo’s Victory, who was slow away. Dawn Grattan finished strongly' to take third place after a good run over the final furlong. The field settled down quickly, and with two circuits to go, Jervis Bay was leading Rocket Book and Barometer Chimes, running on terms. Close up came Flying Chips, Red Setter, Chinook, and Victory Boy. With a half to go Dawn Grattan moved to sixth place, followed by Chinook and Volo’s Victory, and in the run around the back both improved their positions to come on terms with the leaders at the top of the straight.. In the run home Red Seller took charge of affairs, Volo’s Victory and Dawn Grattan being driven hard for the minor places, the former gaining second place by a length. A neck away came Pocket Book, with a similar distance back to Hargood’s Pride. Then came Victory Boy, Jervis Bay, and Chinook. Tote: £4,0374. Despite a slow beginning, the back marker, Jackie Guy, just played with the field over the last quarter, to record one of the easiest wins of the meeting in the smart time of 4.32 2-5 for the two mile journey. Chuckles rushed through to the front soon after the barriers were released, and led up the back the first time from Real Nugget, Paperman, Dandy Grattan, Loyal Peg and Surrey Park, with Wee Peg and Northern Lass doing best of the remainder. There was no change in the order until the commencement of the last round, where Chuckles began to tire, and Real Nugget was left in front, followed' by Dandy Grjittan, Wee Peg, Paperman and Loyal Peg. Jackie Guy was last at this stage, though only about eight lengths from the leader. Going up the back the last time, Jackie Guy commenced a fast run which took him to the front as they crossed the top, his nearest attendants being Real Nugget, Dandy Grattan, and Loyal Peg, with Dominator also showing up. In the run home Jackie Guy was always doing it easily, while in the struggle for the minor money, Dominator outstayed Dandy Grattan for second, with Real Nugget -right up fourth. Tote: £3,4924.

After leading for three-quarters of the distance, Loyal Native hung on to gain the decision from Kango, who, after getting away to a slow: start, made a strong effort, but tired just below the distance. Sir Walter was the early leader, but surrendered his position to Loyal Native before completing a circuit, Compris and Walter Jingle, racing together, moving in behind the leader. Then came Belle Pleader. Steel Sword and Contraband. In the back stretch, Kango and Upshot improved their positions, Kango losing some ground when he broke just before the turn out of the straight. With half a mile to cover Belle Header had' moved up to the leader, and was followed by Compris, Walter Jingle,. Kango and Contraband. In the run around the back, Kango moved up and entered the straight practically on terms with Loyal Native. Walter Jingle also made a run at this stage, but could not get to the leaders, Loyal Native finishing three lengths in front, of Kango, with a length back to Belle Header. Rose Volo found- her opportunity in the last fifty yards, and gained the decision from Honest Feter by a nose, in the Railway Handicap. True Potts was the only starter not to find his feet at the outset, and passing the stand with a mile to go it was Honest Peter doing it nicely from Paddy Potts, Quite Game, Gambler’s Fortune, and Rose Volo. In the back stretch the latter improved her position and ran up' to be on terms with Quite Evident. Then came Wee Peg and True Potts, with a gap back to Gambler’s Fortune, the rest of the field being strung out. At the top of the straight Paddy Potts was hanging on from Honest Peter and Rose Volo, and Forecast had moved up outside Quite Evident. With fifty yards to cover, Rose Volo made a great effort and passed the post a nose in front of Honest Feter. Paddy Potts, a length away, was third, Tote: £3,880. Bonny Axworth was fourth. Winner trained by V. Deeming. After being well backed in his earlier starts, Barometer Chimes was at a decidedly good price when he outstayed Jill and Pocket Book. At the end of a furlong Pocket Book took over the running from Bonny Axworth, Barometer Chimes, Hargood’s Pride and Flying Chips. With a circuit to, complete, Bonny Axworth and Pocket Book were racing on equal terms just clear of Barometer Chimes, on the inside of Jill, then' in pairs Hargood’s Fride, Flying Chips, Dawn Grattan and Chinook. Jackie Guy, who had made up most of his selfimposed handicap, was trailing this bunch. Bonny Axworth was showing clear of Pocket Book half way through the back, with Jill, Barometer Chimes, Hargooi*\s Pride and Flying Chips following in close order. On straightening up, Bonny Axworth was a length clear of Pocket Book, with Jill and Barometer Chimes showing up further out. In a great race over the last furlong, Barometer Chimes got Jill’s measure just short of the wire, and was actually going away to win by a clear length. There was a good tussle for third, Pocket Book coming again to beat Bonny Axworth by a head. Tote: £4,702.
