<Our Own Cbrresoondent). i HOKITIKA, Jan. 3 Constables aWllace and Larmer of Hokitika had their bicycles taken while on duty in the early hours of New .Year’s Day. They were on a cycle tour of the residential areas, and while making a brief inspection of a hotel, their machines disappeared in a-couple of minutes. A search failed .to locate the bicycles, which the- Constables urgently need for their early morning beats covering outlying institutions, and they stated that the- return of the bicycles would be greatly appreciated. Apparently it was no New Year’s joke, as the bicycles haYe not been returned. Mr. Kenneth Wells, son of Mr. and Mrs. R-. C. Wells of Woodstock, was among New Year honours’ recipients, being awarded the M.B.E. He rerently received an American decoration for life saving in San Franciso harbour while a member of the crew of the barque, Pamir. The Mayor of Hokitika, Mr. A. R. Elcock who is also among those to be honoured by the King, has throughut _ the war period lent consistent aid in the patriotic effort.
