Sponsor Press Lies on Balkans EXPOSURE OF CAMPAIGN AGAINST DEMOCRACY. '•E’vV YORK.—-Morgans and Rockfcllers of America, the British Andrews family of millionaire.?, and other giant corporations with heavy investments in the Balkans are .the main driving force behind the political and press compaigns to overthrow the new European democracies. Morgan and Rockfeller oil, mining, banking and investment interests have their own man right on the spot in Belgrade, directing a constant flow of slanders.

Press, United Press and other agencies, the “New York Times” which leads the American press campaign against Yugoslav, Roumanian, Bulgarian and Hungarian Governments, the Morgan-controlled “Time” magazine and other newspapers get their “news” directly from this Mor-gan-Rockfeller source.

Publicist George Seldes’ famous newsletter, “In Fact,” reveals: “The ‘New York Times’ correspondents, “Time’s” correspondent and the representatives of the A.P., U.P., and other news services, get their distorted views, their propaganda and sometimes their falsehoods from the U.S. Ambassador to Yugoslavia. This man is Richard C. Patterson, junr. He was placed in the Balkans by Stettinius and Grew (former State Secretaries). Patterson, according to Yugoslav officials who attended the San Francisco Conference, directs the campaign against the country to which he is accredited.

“The reason is very simple: the facts are that Patterson is not a U.S. Ambassador to Yugoslavia: he is Floyd Odium’s Ambassador to’ the Balkans, vzith special orders to serve Odium interests there. Patterson is Vice-Pre-sident and Chairman of the Board of Directors of various corporations, all of them part of the Atlas Corporation, multi-millionaire outfit directed by Floyd Odium.”

Atlas is one of America’s great investment and utilities combines, linked to both Morgan i , “’’ Rockefeller interests, with Morvans holding more stock than the Rockefeller oil, barons. Atlas has big interests in Paramount (films), R.K.O. (radio and films), and Greyhound bus-lines. Flnvd na l ’”" is known as a “trained acquirer” for Morgans and Rockefellers, and has swallowed up hundreds of other companies and trusts.

“In Fact” says: “Atlas Corporation, like Standard Oil (Rockefeller), International Telephone (Morgan) and other big U.S, corporations and cartel firms has big holdings in Roumania. Patterson is the centre of the entire anti-Russian drive in the Balkans. It was Patterson who gave “Time” newsweekly the feature story which brought up the remarkable fact that the Partisans who alone and unaided defeated the Nazis eat with their knives.

“Nelson Rockefeller of Standard Oil, Armour of the Packing Trust, Stettinius of U.S. Steel and other corporate interests dominate U.S. foreign diplomacy. (Armours are the biggest meat-packing trust in America, with world-wide interests). “Diplomats in foreign lands frequently control the press. In the Balkans it is Atlas Corporation which inspires anti-Yugoslav, anti-Slavic, anti-people propaganda on a vast scale.”

“In Fact” says that commercial reasons for British press attacks on Yugoslavia and Tito are given by the Yugoslav-American author Louis Adamic, in his paper, “Trends and Tides.”

“He has,” says “In Fact,” “exposed a £3OO million scheme for monopolistic control for the benefit of British interests which planned ’to exploit food processing, bauxite deposits, timber, copper, etc. They were linked with Mikhailovitch (traitor Chetnik leader). Henry Andrews, whose family fortunes are built on colonial investments and the Schroder Bank were in on this. Mrs. Andrews is Rebecca West, a noted writer. The Schroder Bank, which has a branch in London, was one of the financial powers behind Hitler. A decisive meeting of industrialists like Thyssen and Krupp who decided to throw in their millions behind Hitler -was held in the house of the German bankingmagnate, Baron Kurt Von Schroder. George Seldes, who was a famous European correspondent and wrote “Sawdust Caesar” and “Facts and. Fascism,” explains why these financial interests have resorted to a desperate slander campaign:—

“The Tito regime has declared the peasants will have the land and the resources of the nation will not be stolen by foreign corporations in liaison with a king or a fascist party. There is nothing left for the British corporations or the Atlas Corporation and Ambassador Patterson but to spread propaganda. Behind the present day troubles reported from Greece, Roumania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Hungary and other Balkan sections is the fact that these agricultural lands were up to now exploited by foreign nations, financiers, industrialists, who are frightened. The press speaks of ‘power politics,’ but never mentions the financial powers. British, American and other financial povyers want to control the political regimes of non-industrialised countries to insure their profits.”

Louis Adamic writes: “For centuries financiers from big-power countries initiated projects in backward lands only if the latter were ruled by corruptible politicians and generals whom they or their Foreign Office could handle for their purpose' which was to get as much out of the investment as possible and to serve their country’s over-all imperialistic game. Sometimes people’s leaders (Radich in Yugoslavia, Stambulisky in Bulgaria), were assassinated to keep a backward country safe for exploitation. Finance and politics went hand in hand. Now these ancient methods are harder and harder, al-

most impossible, to practise.”

F'rench Communist Party Secretary Jacques Duclos quotes from the “Journal de la Bourse’’ (French Stock Exchange paper) to show that in 1941 the four main French banks— Societe Generale, Banque de Paris et des Pays Bas, Banque de L’Union Parisienne and Credit Lyonnais—formed a cartel with I. G. Farben (Nazi Dye Trust)., These pro-Nazi French banks, Duclos charged are to-day in r triguing to get back their oil interests in Roumania and copper mines in Yugoslavia, as well as to prevent nationalisation of banks and industry in France.
