Last week-end saw both the junior and senior competitions continued under ideal conditions, and with the grounds in better condition '-banbefore. The honours list for the week-end’s play was as follows:— Batting: Craig (Marist juniors) 51; D. Hendry (United juniors) 42 not out; Carroll (Marist A) 39; W. (Marist A) 39 not out; Henley (Maiist A) 30; T. Burley (Marist .juniors) 29’ R Barlow (Cobden) 25 "not out. Bowling- Pfahlert (Marist A) 6 for 10; Barclay (Marist juniors) 6 for 16; O. Morris (Marist A) 6 for 27; R. Barlow (Cobden) 3 for 10; A. Vaughan (Cobden) 3 for 11. <s><♦><*<♦> <•>■<♦> Of the two senior games at the Recreation Ground cm Sunday, most interest centred around the Marist B v. Cobden match. After Marist had been dismissed for 86, Cobden, with their strong batting side appeared to be in for an easy victory. Cobden, however, lost four good wickets for 36, and from that stage on, were playing to avoid a defeat. Barlow and Hornsby made a useful stand, but after Hornsby was ' dismissed, the batsmen became over cautious, and soon made mistakes which were used to full advantage by the Marist side. With two runs necessary to equal Marist’s score, the last batsman played a catch into Carmody’s hands. <s><£<s>.<»«><•> Cricket is definitely regaining its popularity in Greymouth, and it now falls the duty of the seniors, to encourage the younger players. The performances of the boys reveals some promising material, as witness, the performance of D. Hendry. This 13-year-old lad batted for an hour and a quarter on Saturday, to score 42, not out. T. Burley of Marist is another boy who shows a lot of promise. <s> 4> <s> <s> <s> <♦> The West Coast representative team which is to play matches at Christchurch on December 8 and 9 should be a strong batting side, but the bowling will probably be below the standard necessary to dismiss the Canterbury team. Of the 16 players nominated from Greymouth and the five from Hokitika, Lawson appears to be the only man capable of troubling such men as Cromb, Norman, O’Brien and Scott. This season’s games with Canter<s> <♦><s><«><«> <S> bury is of an experimental nature. In the past interprovincial games have been played late in the season, with the results that lessons learned from more experienced opponents have been largely forgotten during the winter months This year it is hoped that the benefits derived from the games will be applied to the present season, and it is hoped, will improve the standard of Coast cricket. <s><s■<s> <t> ' The Cobden senior team to play United B at the Recreation Ground (No. 2) on Sunday, is as follows: — Vaughan, Guy, Knapp (2), Dewar, Lines, Marshall, Webber, Thompson, Clarke, Hornsby, Spender. <i> <t> <i> <S>
