BASEBALL

The newly-formed West Coast Women’s Baseball Association will hold its opening matches on the Cobden Recreation Ground to-morrow. This game which is new to. the Coast, has become popular in other centres during the past few years, and from the interest shown at the initial meetings, it appears as if the game will soon become popular here. Already four reams have affiliated with the Association, representing Runanga, Greymouth, Cobden and the Grey River Hospital Nurses have fielded a team. A team consists of ten players, and it is hoped that as the game becomes more widely known, more clubs will be founded. At the general meeting it was decided to approach the basketball clubs, in an endeavour to interest them in the game during the summer months. Practices are to be held in McGinley Park on Saturdays, and players are desirous that all possessing a knowledge of the game, assist with a coaching plan, until the newly-form-ed body finds its feet.
