Conditions were good, at last Saturday’s meeting of the Greymouth Amateur Club at Victoria Park. She impresses as being a natural athlete, and should do well in the future. Saturday was • her initial run as a member of the club She is the sixth member of the Perrin familv to take part in local athletics, ail haying competed with success. <■ ' <s><!><s> <t> 4> ■ Although small in build, and without a great deal of racing experience A. McPhie showed by the manner he carried off the junior half-mile that he is a runner above the average. At the bell he took the lead, and though three times challenged by T. bannister, he each time forced the latter to run on the outside. At the entrance to the straight Bannister had had enough, while McPhie finished full of running. <s><s>•s><s><&■s■ One of the most improved athletes in the club is H. Hill. He won both ' the junior hurdles and the 2zoyds in good times. He is reaping the reward of last season’s hard and regular training. He is not only a good sprinter, but also shows up well in field events . , ’ <s><»«><♦><•><♦> Another promising junior who caught the eve last Saturday, was A Blackie. Although he won the 100yds off a good mark, his time of 10 2-ssec was excellent. Like Hill, has has shown a vast improvement from last year, and was also responsible for a good effort in the ' high jump. <♦? <t> <t> To qualify as a junior, the athlete must be under 19 years of age at the date of competition. <•>■•»<♦><♦> <S- <s> The following amateur events have been included in the Rugby Union’s sports programme for December 1: Open lOOvds, 440yds, 1 mile, 120yds hurdles, shot putt, long jump, high jump, inter-club football relay race (4 x 100yds), ladies’ 75yds, 100yds, high jump. Trophy values will be 15s and ss.
