NEW GREEK GOVERNMENT
<Rec. 10.30). ATHENS. Noy. 23. A communique was issued after the new Government’s first meeting. It said the main points ih its programme were the re-establishment, of an ordered economy; and restoration of law and order. The Government urged the people to remain clam and disciplined. Efforts were still being made to persuade Archbishop Damaskinos to withdraw his resignation as Regent. The Greek Communist. Party has announced that the Party has accepted the -Sofoulis Government. It added that the British now had their first real opportunity to serve the Greek people in breaking Fascist reaction. The Greek Populist (Monarchist) Party addressed a message to the people, condemning the new Cabinet of M. Safoulis which had dragged the British Government into action contrary to the actual interest, dignity and feelings of the Greeks. The Cabinet forced- the Regent to resign and to swear them in while under resignation. The Government .was anticonstitutional and dictatorial —a Government of oligarchy.
