ARABS V. JEWS British Forces Increased (Rec. 11.15) WASHINGTON. Oct. 4 President Truman told a press com ference he has received a reply from Mr. Attlee about his Palestine suggestion for Jewish entry, but he refused to divulge or discuss the subject until he had talked with Mr. J. tByrnes. Secretary of State. Mr. Byrnes on Wednesday left London on his return. _ LONDON, October 3. Jews are illegally entering Palestine in large numbers. Several thousand troops of, the Sixth Air-Borne Division disembarked at Haifa. , The British cruiser Sins and tne destroyer Haydon are anchored off Jaffa and Tel Aviv, states the ‘ Daily Telegraph’s” Jerusalem correspondent, who adds: The “Siris” is the flagship of Vice-Admiral Tennent, flag officer of the Levant, and the Eastern Mediterranean, who is in Jerusalem for consultations' with Lord Gort. Jewish residents in the outer districts, close to Arab lands, are evacuating because of fear of attacks. The situation is reported to be quietei. Troops and police are patrolling the streets and roads. A statement issued by Tewnk Salen Husseini, acting-Chairman of the Palestine Arab party indicated that large numbers of Jewish immigrants are reaching Palestine illegally. The statement said; "The Palestine case faces its most critical days, anti any postponement of a solution of the problem further increases the dangers to . the Arabs. Jewish immigration, particularly illicit land transfers, continue alarmingly. We appeal for help to implement the Arab demtinds for the immediate permanent "suspension of Jewish immigration and land sales, and a declaration of the independence of Palestine? Any solution, not implementing the Arab demands will threaten the peace and tranquility of Palestine and Arab countries.”
