POLES PREFER EXILE

TO SOVIET RULE. ROME, October 3.

The majority of the Poles in Italy do not want to return to Poland, according to a statement by Lieut General Anders, Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Second Corps. He said a plebiscite, carried out in his corps, revealed that of a total of 100.000 men. 14.000 wanted to return to Poland. The remaining 86,000 considered the conditions of life in Poland did not permit of their return. Commenting on Polish-Russian relations, Lieut.-General Anders said: “Poland, to-day, is governed by the Soviet Union. We Poles naturally are all most anxious to return to our native land, but we can only do so when Poland is free and independent.”
