WESTPORT NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent! WESTPORT, Sept. 21. The Holmlea sailed this morning for Wanganui. The Kartigi is expected to sail to-night for Auckland. The Titoki is due to-morrow from Wellington to load for Nelson. The Kaimiro is to load to-morrow for Auckland. Mr G. Blair has left for Wellington. Mrs W. A. Craddock left yesterday for Wellington. Mr J. Metson has returned from Wellington where he attended the Technical Education Conference. Mi’ and Mrs E. Hansen, of Stockton, have left for the North Island on a holiday visit. Mrs D. Lavery of Stockton, who has left to reside at Westport, was presented with a gift by the Stockton Women’s branch of the Labour Party prior to her departure. Good catches of whitebait were again made in the Buller and Orowaiti Rivers to-day and the price per pint has now dropped to 2s. The St. John's Spring Flower Show opened yesterday. The exhibits, despite the sudden ending of’the season, were of a high standard, although not as numerous as in other years. The ’champion ribbon for the . barri orange cup was awarded Mrs Porteous’ bloom. In the daffodil and narcissi section Mrs Kelpe gained 8 first prizes, Mrs Lynch 2, Mr R. Stowell 2, and Mesdames Hickford, Ridsdale, Wilson and Norris 1 each. In the cut flowers section Mrs Neill (3), Mrs W. Stowell (2), Mr Wilson (2) Miss Kelpe and Mesdames Porteous, Hickford, Lovell, Jorgenson, Maitland and Burrows (1) gained awards. The children’s section was well supported and Miss Allison Greenwood (2) and Jennifer Maitland were the main prize winners.
