LONDON, September 16. „ The former German liner “Europa berthed at Southampton for the nrst time since the beginning of the wax, to pick up 4,500 troops returning to the United States. The former Blue Riband holder is now a United States transport under command of Captain Perry, United States Navy. Captain Oscar Schare, the former German commander of the liner, is also making the voyage with seven German technicians including the chief designer of the ship. _ Caballero, a Republican Premier during the civil war in Spain, ailived at Paris by air from the Russianoccupied zone of Germany, where he has lived since his release from a concentration camp at Nurembuig last April. He said he fully approved the formation of Giral’s Spanish Republican Exile Government in Mexico. He added that the Germans beat him within an inch of his life before they evacuated Nuremburg. it was a miracle he did not die. Princess Margaret delivered her first public speech, in a strong young voice, without a trace of nervousness, when, deputising for Princess Elizabeth, she addressed 4,000 members of the youth organisation at Aberdeen to-day. . R.A.F. and Dominion Allied airmen, women of the auxiliary services, and representatives of other defence forces marched to Westminster Abbey, where a service was' held in thanksgiving for the victory during the Battle of Britain. Air Chief Marshal Ludlow-Hewitt, represented the King. Mr. Attlee, members _of the Government, Dominion High Commissioners, and members of the Air and Army Councils and Admiralty Board also attended.
