BLACKBALL NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent) Mr jacx Willetts, a popular driver on the N.Z.R. Road Services plying between Blackball and Greymouth, has left on transfer to the Christchurch district

Mr and Mrs J. Forsyth, of Palmerston North, are visiting Mr and Mrs L. Allen.

Miss Annie Brown, _ who has been spending a vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. Brown, has left on her return to .Timaru. Mr Jack Neilson is off work at present, having suffered an injury to the first linger of his right hand, while engaged in the Roa Mine. The condition of Mr Chas. Schafer, who is an inmate of the. Grey Hospital, consequent on an accident to his right hand, while working in the Blackball State, mine last Tuesday, is reported ver;/ satisfactory. Miss B. Easterbrook, of Christchurch, arrived here last Monday to fill the position of relieving teacher at Blackball school, which resumed on Tuesday with a full attendance. Owing to the inability of the newly-ap-pointed Headmaster, Mr R. Buchan, of Southland, to be here at the resumption, Miss Scott is meantime in charge. General regret was expressed 'at the sudden death of Mrs Jessie C. Snedden at Hokitika last week. She was a very popular chur,ch worker, and a foundation member of the Presbyterian Church here She was quite an expert in knitting and in fancy work. Her husband predeceased her a short time ago. The sympathy of the “residents will be extended to her relatives in their bereavement.

News has been received of the death at Whangarei of Mrs D. Veitch, who resided here for many years before leaving with her husband and family for Hikurangi, where Mr Veitch secured an appointment as deputy at the coal mine there. Later on, Mr Veitch was accidentally killed by a runaway rake of skips in the tunnel. Mrs Veitch and family then moved to Kamo, and later to Whangarei, where she had resided since. The family were popular here, and many friends will extend sympathy to them in their bereavement.

Mrs M. Hogg and her son,.Alf, have returned from a holiday visit to Ashburton. „ Messrs C. P. and W. Mountford, C. Mcßride, R.jAynsley, J. McNaughton, and M. Ord left for Christchurch last evening to take part in the representative match, West Coast v. Canterbury, which is being played at Christchurch to-day.
