SYDNEY, Sept. 7 Purdy consolidated his lead in the Australian Chess championship by defeating M. E. Goldstein in 22 moves. The New Zealander, R. T. Wade, showed a good understanding of position in his game against the South Australian expert, A. L. Miller. He got slightly the worse of the opening, but turned the tables and won very convincingly. The New South Wales champion, Lajos Steiner, was deteated by veteran C. G. Watson but in an adjourned game, Steiner defeated the title holder, Kosknity. Progress scores are: Purdy four, Wade and Watson each three and a half, Steiner three, Larare two and' a half.
