PRISONERS OF WAR

ARRIVAL AT CHRISTCHURCH CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 6. Hundreds of relations and friends gave a warm welcome to repatriated prisoners of war who arrived at Christchurch this morning, after travelling from Wellington on the inter-island steamer. There were 298 men in the draft. The men arrived on the ordinary ferry train and there was some confusion in sorting them out on the platform, but the train was up to time, and once the men left the platform they were quickly taken home with their relations by private and Army cars. The draft of 298 comprised 77 for Christchurch, 22 for the West Coast, and 199 for points south of Christchurch. In addition, there were 20 airmen for Christchurch, with two for the West Coast and 23 for points south. Men for the south left later on a special train, and West Coasters left on the express at 10 o'clock. All the men looked fit and well, and the majority had acquired a good tan during their long sea journey.
