NELSON LAND BOARD
Mr. B. King (Commissioner of Crown Lands) presided over a meeting of the Nelson Land- Board held recently. Also present were Messrs J. O’Regan, J. Creighton and G. L. Mead. Applications for land were dealt with as follows: — It was resolved to grant A. J. Thompson a year-to-year license from January 1, 1937, over sections 95 and 96, Westport Colliery Reserve, at a rental of fl per annum, and to offer tile sections together for lease for a term of 21 vears with perpetual rights of renewal under the Westland and Nelson coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments, at a rental of £1 10s per annum, weighted with £lO9O for improvements payable in cash. It was resolved to grant A. J. Thompson a year-to-year license over section 94, Westport Colliery Reserve, from J’anuary 1, 1937, at a rental of 15s per annum and to offer sections 93 and 94 for selection by ballot under the Westland and Nelson coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments, for terms of 21 years with perpetual rights of renewal (such offering to exclude thereout the areas occupied by railway) at a rental of £1 10s per annum and weighted with £174 for improvements payable in cash.
It was resolved to grant S. E. Griggs a year-to-year license over sections 712 and 713, Town of Reefton, 24.6 perches, from August 8, 1945, at a rental of 10s per annum. It was resolved to cancel occupation license over Sections 50, 53, 108 and 109, Blk. XI, Mawheraiti S.D. 505 acres 2 roods 11 perches, as at August 8, 1945, to grant J. C. Scott a pastoral regulation license over section 53, 296 a, 2r. OOp. at a rental of £4 pel’ annum, as from August 8, 1945; and to grant an occupation license to D. P. Lemon over secs. 50, 108 and 109, at a rental of £1 10s per annum as from August 8, 1945, Mr. Scott to pay £l5 cash for improvements on section 53.
It was resolved to terminate the grazing rights of W. H. Dawson over Sections 90, 91 and 92, Seddonville Township, 1 acre 16.5 perches, as at November 16, 1945, and to grant a year-to-year license to Miss L. Dawson from Nov. 17, 1945, at a rental of 15s per annum. The following applications for timber cutting licenses were approved: J. W. Stuart, for part section 53, Blk. IV, Inangahua S.D., 30 acres; J. B. McMahon, for Grown Land in Block VI and part section 16, Blk. II Reefton S. D., 40 acres (approx); W. J. 'Preen, for Crown Land in Blk. XI, Reefton S.D., 50 acres (approx.). An application for cancellation of a timber-cutting license held by S. J. Gibson over part section 10, Blk. XV, Lyell S.D., was approved. The following applications for transfers were approved:—sections 600, 601, 748, 749, 750 and 751, Town of Reefton, 1 rd. 32 perches, Robinson to Jones (Reefton); section 1119, Westport Colliery Reserve, 30.2 perches, Chandler to Cavanagh (Westport); section 163, Westport Colliery Reserve, 12 perches, and section 179 A, Westport Colliery Reserve, 12 perches, Daily and Daily to Righton (Westport); section “100 C Westport Colliery l Reserve, 12.2 perches, Organ and Riley to Clark (Westport); section 208, Westport Colliery Reserve, 27.75 perches, Hennessy to Mrs. Hawes (Westport); section -881, Westport Colliery Reserve, 30.72 perches, Clewer to O. and L. Radford (Westport); section 1050, Westport Colliery Reserve, 1 rd. Love to Henderson. Other applications for transfers were dealt with as follows: Lot 1 of section 1085, Westport Colliery Reserve, 16.9 perches, Gibson to Cooper and Cooper.—Adjourned. Section 299, Town of Reefton, 1 rood, John Kilkenny to Mrs. A. M. Davis (Westport).—Approved subject to a special condition. Section 812, Westport Colliery Reserve, 1, rd, T. Williams to transferee: A. - J. Grimwood. Left in hands of Commissioner of Crown Lands. Section 99A. and part section 98A, Westport Colliery Reserve, W. J’. Woodman to A. J. Thompson: (Westport).— Refused.
It was resolved to offer section 1056, Westport Colliery Reserve, 1 rd., for selection by ballot for a term of 21 years with perpetual right of renewal under the Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments, annual rental £2 ss, weighted with £2,06 for improvements, payable in cash. It was resolved to offer part section 168 . and Section 169, ' Westport Colliery Reserve, for selection by iballot for a lease of 21 years with perpetual right of renewal under the Westland and Nelson Coalfields Administration Act, 1877, and amendments at a rental of 5 per cent, of field inspector’s valuation when received. It was resolved to terminate licenses over sections 4 and 5, Blk. VII. Kongahu S.D., 15 acres, held by estate of L. M. Kingston as at December 31, 1945 and to grant a similar license to R. C. Leach from January 1, 1946. It was, resolved to terminate occupation license over Crown Land in Block XII, Maruia S.D.. 50 acres, held by estate of E. A. Nalder, as at December 31? 1945, and to greant Mrs. Mary Nalder a similar license at a rental of £2 per annum from January 1, 1946. It was resolved to . terminate occupation license over land in Blk. XV, Oparara S.D., 5 acres, held by estate of H. G. Pettit, as at June 30, 1945, and occupation license over section 21. Blk. VI, Ngakawau S.D., 49 acres 3 rds. 35 perches, held bv D. McMillan, Jnr., as at June 30. 1945. The Conservator of Forests, Nelson, submitted proposals by the Buller Collingwood, Inangahua and Waimea County Councils for the expenditure of “fifths” from State Forest for the period April, 1945 to June 30, 1945, and these w^re-approved.
