DECISION TO CAPITULATE BEING TO THE ALLIES FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED TO-DAY U.S. FLEET STARTING FOR JAPAN’S PORTS (Received August 14, 7.0 p.m.) LONDON, August 14. Reuter’s correspondent at New York says: “The Japanese News Agency, according to the United States Office of Information, says: The Japanese Government accepts the Allies’ surrender formula embodied in the Note which was despatched to Tokio by the United States. ALLIED SURRENDER TERMS ACCEPTED AMERICAN OFFICIAL STATEMENT (Received August 14, 8.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 14. The Associated Press of America says: The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has reported: Japan has accepted the Allied surrender terms. The Commission quoted the Domei News Agency as saying: “An Imperial message, accepting the Potsdam Proclamation will be forthcoming soon.” The Domei message did not mention the Allied stipulation regarding Emperor Hirohito. THE REPORT OF JAPAN'S SURRENDER SENT BY U.S. NAVY FROM GUAM (Received August 14, 11.10 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 14. The communications room of the United States Pacific Fleet at Guam Island flashed the Tokio report that Japan is accepting the Postdam declaration. The room made no official announcement. However, the Fleet Headquarters censorship passed a sentence in the Associated Press report from Guam Island on the Tokio surrender stating that “it was believed that the American Fleet would head for Japanese ports shortly-” The Associated Press comments: This report might have been based on plans for the Fleet’s movement if the enemy surrendered.
DECISION MADE. (Rec. 10.40). LONDON, August 14. Tokio radio says: The Japanese Cabinet met immediately upon the receipt of the Allied Note. The Cabinet continued in session until last night. The radio added': The Japanese reply probably will be available as soon as the legal procedure is completed. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO-DAY. (Rec. 1.0.) LONDON, August 14. A Japanese official announcement stated that at noon on Wednesday, a very important announcement would be made at Tokio. It said the Emperor had expressed concern lor the position of Japan and Japanese in occupied' Asia, as the result of the war. The Cabinet’s reply to the Allies was soon forthcoming.
