-RIGHT OF CRIMINAL APPEAL P.A. , WELLINGTON, Jtily 19 In the House of Representatives today, a Criminal Appeal Bill was introduced and read for the first time. Hon. H. G. R. Mason explained that the right of app'eal in criminal cases had been much more restricted in New Zealand than it was years ago. This Bill provided an enlargement of their rights, similar to that in Britain. It did not affect any rights, but enlarged the authority of the Court of Appeal. MAN FACES MURDER CHARGE P;A. AUCKLAND. July 19 Charged with the murder of Lila Willemina Hammond at Otahuhu on July 9, Stanley Wimyood McKissick Reid, 41, labourer and range fitter, made his second appearance in the Police Court, this morning. On the application of the police accused was remanded until August 2, when it was stated the Crown will be ready to proceed with the hearing of the charge. As was the case last Thursday when Reid made his first appearance the Court was . crowded this morning. • DATE OF N.Z. CENSUS. P.A. WELLINGTON, July 19. According to a notice appearing in to-night’s Gazette, at •midnignt, between’ Tuesday, September 25 and Wednesday, September 26, next, ' a census will be taken throughout New Zealand.
